Kitchen renovation plans were underway when the client contacted us for a seating solution to her feature kitchen island.  The kitchen supplier had designed the rectangular island to incorporate a seating area which curved into the island cupboard block, creating a family gathering place in the kitchen in spite of the compact space.  An upholstered bench was to surround a table which would be used for family mealtimes – and as a place for the children to sit and read/play whilst the parents could enjoy cooking in the newly renovated kitchen.

The client was eager not to compromise style whilst maintaining practicality in a busy household with children and a dog.  Our instinct was to recommend a wipeable, stain-resistant fabric that would be easy to keep clean, adding buttoning detail for a classic look similar to that of a chesterfield sofa.  We sourced fabrics from a range that didn’t have the typical wipeable ‘vinyl’ look, and the client selected a grey tone with a slight sheen.  This complemented the colour palette of the room and added flair that will still look crisp after years of use, thanks to its functional qualities.
